1. What is it About Me You Can't Teach? Closing the Achievement Gap
On the national front, educators are struggling to close achievement gaps by better meeting the needs of diverse learners. To assist Kentucky’s leaders in the improvement of teacher practice, Dr. Eleanor Renee Rodriguez will bring her insights and strategies, based on personal experience and current research, about how teachers can best help struggling students become active, engaged learners. Her passion is using professional learning as a vehicle to promote equity and excellence at all levels and for all students and educators. She will include in her discussion the challenges faced by struggling learners, the importance of high expectations and guidelines for how teachers can most effectively interact with students. Each participant will receive a copy Eleanor’s book, What Is It About Me You Can’t Teach, to continue the learning.

transformation, effective communication and the top 10 traps to avoid;
- Addressing and meeting the demands of next-generation learners;

- Examining our learning cultures and leading change that moves from teacher-directed to studentcentered classrooms, from teachers working in isolation to teachers in highly collaborative learning environments; and from education as a set of disconnected programs and initiatives to a system that
embraces a professional practice.

3. Building Professional Learning Communities: Focusing on Results Rather Than Intentions
Join Chris Bentzel and Leigh Ann Stewart for the afternoon to learn how the total staff at Lacy Elementary School in Christian County used the DuFour’s Professional Learning Community (PLC) model to transform a school and improve student growth. During the session, participants will receive fundamental tips and tools for organizing and implementing a PLC, which includes creative scheduling, common planning, building collective capacity and a system for administrators to monitor classroom results that closes the “know-doing” gap. Their approach is a job-embedded one for transforming a school culture from compliance to commitment of quality instruction and student results.

4. How to Think. What to Say. Get Your Message Across
Be part of this interactive, engaging session to communicate your school or district's message. Learn how to mentally prepare and speak with conviction and enthusiasm while showing likeability; focus on the main message and the takeaways for the audience; and deliver the buzz you or your school district want to create.
