Cheryl Jones, principal at Twenhofel Middle School in Kenton County was named the 2008 Middle School Principal of the Year. She was nominated by Rod Pierce, a 23-year veteran teacher at her school. In addition to her nomination, a letter of recommendation was written by Chloe Turner, a student at Twenhofel. Describing Jones as an "extraordinary principal," Chloe goes on to say, "She disciplines, inspires, supports and interacts with her school, students and staff."
An educator in Kenton County Schools for 30 years, Jones is well thought of throughout her district. "Cheryl's strengths can be seen in a variety of areas, but mainly within the way she connects with people…all people - staff, students, and the community. She is an authentic, down-to-earth leader who motivates people by empowering them," said Tim Hanner, superintendent of Kenton County Schools. "Cheryl is also one of the most student-centered leaders you will ever meet. All decisions are based on what is best for students, and she has courage to make the tough decisions if it is in the best interest for her kids."
Tracey Lamb, principal at North Bullitt High School in Bullitt County was named 2008 High School Principal of the Year. She was nominated for this award by longtime colleague Yvette Pyle, principal of Calloway County High School.
With more than seven years of high school administration experience, Tracey's number one priority is that every child is successful. "I think the main thing is you've got to get your whole staff and students focused on the real goal and mission. That's our job as educators to get the kids ready to do the best they can. Every kid can be successful," said Lamb.
Tracey has also been elected to the NASSP board of directors and will represent the five states that comprise NASSP's region 3.
Both Jones and Lamb will be honored at KASSP's June conference in Lexington, and again at the Principal's Institute and Awards Banquet this fall in Washington, D.C.
