The Kentucky School Boards Association and the Kentucky Association of School Administrators are teaming together to offer a timely professional growth opportunity that provides great tips for both staying legal and best practice solutions to make the certified evaluation process more student-achievement focused. In order for this to occur, evaluators must provide guidance, assistance, support and oversight while working within the parameters of law and policy requirements.
Objectives for the Day:
Learn how to utilize the certified evaluation process to improve staff performance without incurring legal problems
-
Increase understanding of how to guide certified staff to adhere to legal and policy requirements to improve student achievement, particularly in the challenging areas of management of student behavior and discipline and special education
-
Explore the questions that should not be asked and statements that should not be made as an evaluator when discussing staff members’ performance with them
-
Review critical law and policy requirements that can make a difference in student learning
-
Understand common legal and policy pitfalls evaluators encounter that may result in the district losing a court battle or the supervisor facing disciplinary action from the superintendent for violation of law or board policy
-
Explore how the use of Kentucky’s revised teacher standards and performance criteria can be used to better impact student achievement
-
Through video simulation, gain practice with conducting observations using revised teacher standards
-
