For the 2008-2009 school year, we will offer a new program for administrators who coordinate and supervise the work of instructional/content coaches in your district or school. As schools and districts are employing teacher leaders, master teachers and other specialists to “coach” school leaders, faculty and staff to improve teaching and learning, it is important to develop a cohesive system of leadership and support.
The purpose of this initiative is to assist districts and schools in developing a cohesive leadership system of coaching, regardless of the content or target area. This initiative will focus on the key components of coaching, building trust, coaching models that respond to differentiated needs, and inspiring coaches to positively affect the school culture, improve new administrator and teacher quality, and increase student achievement. The sessions will also address the benefits of seeking and using mentors/coaches, coaching functions and qualifications, and lessons learned from highly effective cohesive coaching systems.
Coaches serve new administrators, teachers, students, and the district/school system. Facilitating these efforts and assisting coaches in making adaptive changes while building capacity and sustainability in the system is a challenge. As a result of your participation, you will receive high-quality training materials, research-based resources, strategies and tools on coaching and a process approach to developing a cohesive coaching system.
The initiative will meet four days during the year. Members will be invited to attend our national consultant events and participate in our on-line learning communities.
