It is vitally important for new principals to have the opportunity to continue to grow professionally, improve leadership skills, and receive the needed support to mature into successful school leaders. With the non-funding of the Kentucky Principal Intern Program, KASA, in collaboration with the Kentucky Cohesive Leadership System (KyCLS), is offering a professional growth and support network for beginning principals with three or less years of experience. New school leaders will be provided the opportunity to meet and learn with a group of peers that are at similar levels of development, working on dimensions and functions vital to becoming effective instructional leaders.
Under the guidance and leadership of KyCLS and with participants from universities, school districts, and related educational groups, a principal development leadership continuum is being developed for four career stages. These are aspiring (in leadership preparation programs), beginning, experienced, and retiring key behaviors. Our Network will focus on those research-based behaviors for the beginning stage of principal development (0–3 years experience).
Participants will be invited to participate in four cadre sessions, attend KLA national consultant events, and participate in online learning communities. KyCLS will also provide, at no additional charge, a mentor who will provide support through on-site visits and via electronic media.
The curriculum will focus on three key areas . . .
