We have once again invited Dr. Janet Graden to present "RtI: Making Data Informed Decisions" for school and district staff working to implement a successful intervention program that will positively impact student achievement. (This is a repeat of the workshop Janet presented in December 2007.) The purpose of this workshop is to build on the training provided by Kentucky’s educational cooperatives and earlier workshops presented by Dr. Graden.
This workshop will focus on using student outcome data for a range of important educational decisions. In a comprehensive approach to Response to Intervention, data-informed decision making is a key component. Student outcome and response data are used for making decisions about
- the effectiveness of core instruction (Tier 1) for all students and for NCLB subgroups;
- students in need of more targeted and individualized intervention (Tiers 2 and 3);
- the effectiveness of interventions in closing achievement gaps;
- determining whether student progress is adequate or more intensive instruction and intervention are needed; and
- students in need of specialized and intensive instruction (using RtI data for eligibility decisions special education).
Attendees will learn strategies and tools for using data for these decisions. The workshop will include use of examples for all decisions and opportunities for participants to practice with data examples. Participants also are encouraged to bring their own data (e.g., grade level or class-wide results from assessments, progress monitoring data for individual students) to use for practice opportunities.
