Understanding & Raising Student Aspirations

October 20, 2009 * 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET
Galt House Hotel & Suites, Louisville

Raising student aspirations is not one more goal for schools to attain in an already overly long list of objectives. The truth of the matter is that inspiring students to reach their dreams and improving student achievement are mutually reinforcing. When administrators ensure that students in our schools have self-worth, are actively engaged in their learning, and have a sense of purpose, they create environments in which students set goals for themselves, are inspired to work hard to reach those goals, and provide a context in which students can be successful academically.

This workshop is based on 30 decades of research built around student aspirations - the ability to dream and set goals for the future, while being inspired in the present to reach those goals. Attendees will leave with:

  • Insight to conditions necessary for students to fulfill their academic, personal and social promise
  • A look at four Kentucky school district's experiences
  • Practical model to improve schools from within
  • Powerful tools for understanding what motivates and inspires students to achieve
  • Guide for improving relationships with students and parents
