Criteria and Contest Guidelines

 
 
  • All entries must be handwritten or typed on a 8 1/2 by 11 sheet of paper.
  • Typed entries must be single spaced with a minimum 12-point font size.
  • Length: Grades K-5 one-page maximum / Grades 6-12 two-page maximum.
  1. Students select appropriate format for writing purpose (e.g., memoir, personal narrative, persuasive piece, etc.).
  2. Content should focus on a classified or certified staff member in a Kentucky school, presently working or retired, who has had a positive influence on the student’s academic success. Content should clearly identify the relationship of the student and his/her role model and how that role model relates to the student’s educational success.
  3. Each school may submit one (1) essay from grades K-2, 3-5, 6-8, or 9-12.
  4. The following identification information must be written or typed in the upper right-hand corner of the entry: student’s name, school name, grade level, and principal’s name.
  5. School’s final contest entry should be submitted to KASA by the school principal with a cover sheet or brief note endorsing the contest entry. (School Entry Form Follows)
  6. School’s final contest entry must be received at the KASA office no later than April 16, 2007. Faxes and emails cannot be accepted. Please allow five business days for mailing.
  7. Entries will be scored holistically based on Kentucky's Writing Scoring Guide.
  8. Contest winners will be announced in early May prior to year-end school celebrations.
