Teaching with Poverty in Mind

Eric Jensen

Are students of poverty really different?
The research says, “Yes!” But, HOW are they different and
what can you do about it?

The first step is changing your understanding and responses to students of poverty. You will learn the secrets of the E-A-C-H model. This gives you the skills to successfully produce better behaviors and surprising academic results. This session shows you how to break the pattern of failure and help turn D and F students into high achieving, motivated learners. You’ll learn how to intervene in positive, practical, research-based ways that can skyrocket achievement scores.

Next, you’ll learn Jensen’s unique 5-part success system (S-H-A-R-E) This system includes 1) how to understand behavior issues 2) academic issues 3) curriculum 4) social issues and 5) implementation.

This session is especially powerful for you if your school is not performing up to standards. Why? Because you'll get the powerhouse insights and tools you need the most to help create a major turnaround. The reason your kids aren’t achieving is simple: their brains are underperforming and you don’t know how to change them! This is where you learn how to make powerful changes. This workshop will change how you understand the brains of poverty, and give you practical strategies for success.

This overview is the new science of academic achievement for low-income students. Eric Jensen gives you fresh neuroscience to the classroom insights.

  • You’ll get the key background knowledge and a practical roadmap for academic success with kids from poverty.
  • You’ll learn how experience changes the brain.
  • You’ll discover, is it genes or environment—what matters most now?
  • You’ll find out which factors are reversible, and which are not.
  • Most importantly, you’ll learn what has to be done to help students succeed.

Eric Jensen is a former teacher with a real love of learning. He grew up in San Diego and attended public schools.

While his academic background is in English and human development, he has a real love of educational neuroscience. For over 20 years, he has been connecting the research with practical classroom applications. Most importantly, he models what he has learned, so teachers can see it, hear it and experience the difference.

Jensen has written 26 books and has 10 published articles.
