Kentucky Leadership Academy 2008-09

Once again, it is time to offer membership in the Kentucky Leadership Academy. We sincerely want the KLA experience to be an on-going professional growth opportunity that brings you back year after year.

Theme

"Building Professional Learning Communities for a Global Society"

From the DuFours to Shirley Hord and others, research abounds that supports the need to begin the professional learning community journey. As education leaders, it is our moral imperative to lead that charge. As a participant in KLA or KLA Alumni, you will be provided information, resources and tools to assist on your journey.

As leaders, we also need to be cognizant of the dramatically different world our students will encounter. Connecting our students to international learning is vital to their success in the 21st century world of work. As part of the KLA experience, participants will be invited to attend our December international event, “Leading the Core Business in a Global Society: An International Summit,” focused on effective learning, effective schooling, and effective leadership in a global environment. It will be continued as part of our June 2009 Leadership Retreat. We have distinguished speakers from around the globe to share with us their success stories and provide networking opportunities for districts, schools and classrooms to continue the learning. This is an exciting opportunity that is on “the cutting edge” for Kentucky’s educators and students.

Even though we will add a global perspective to our curriculum, we will continue to be grounded in the day-to-day realities of accountability and improving student achievement. We will share the latest Standards and Indicators for School Improvement, 2008 revised edition, and its potential impact as a school improvement tool; continue to provide the latest research on best practice for leading and learning; and provide internal and external networking opportunities through regional cadre sessions, email, and an online learning community that is currently available to our participants.

As in previous years, we will continue to provide copies of all our materials, both paper and electronic, for our participants to be able to duplicate and continue the learning at the local level. In this time of budget crunches, KLA is a great opportunity to get the most bang for your dollars while participating in excellent professional growth venues. You are invited each year to join us.
