Kerry Purcell currently serves as a Senior Consultant for Focus on Results and is the President and Owner of Kerry Purcell, Inc. In her current capacities, Kerry works with district and school leaders around the country. Her work focuses on building leadership capacity and system supports to further enhance teaching and learning opportunities for every student, every day.
Kerry received her Master's Degree in educational administration and has served as a building administrator for eight years. Most recently, Kerry has served as building principal for Harvard Park Elementary School in Springfield, Il. Harvard Park has made significant academic gains in both literacy and mathematics resulting in the school being removed from the state watch list. While serving as building principal, Kerry has also been active at the District level supporting new administrators and teachers in the implementation of school improvement models.
Kerry’s belief is that all students can and will succeed when given opportunities to engage in solid, core instruction delivered with fidelity and integrity every day, in every classroom. She understands that this can and does happen only when leaders share a common belief that all students can learn despite the barriers and challenges that stand before them.
In 2007, Kerry’s school was one of two schools selected to be featured in the documentary film, The Principal Story, which premiered nationally in September 2009. This film, funded by the Wallace Foundation and produced by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Tod Lending and award winning filmmaker David Mrazek, explores the many facets of principal leadership through poignant and real stories. In addition, Kerry has authored and published an article focused on Leadership Lessons and posts frequent “food for thought” on her blog, www.kerrypurcellinc.blogspot.com. She is also sought frequently as keynote and presenter at national, statewide, and local conferences and institutes. Most recently, Kerry has been an invited panelist for the National Staff Development Council (2009), The National Association of Elementary School Principals (2009), and as a workshop presenter at PATTAN (Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network (2010).
